A CBN wheel is made from cubic boron nitride. This material is one of the hardest materials available, second only to diamonds. The main feature of the material is that it features a high abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity that maintains its sharp cutting edges.
Vitrified CBN and Diamond grinding wheels are the most effective “dressable” products for production grinding applications. The extreme hardness of these abrasives proves to be very abusive towards diamond dressing tools. For simple profiles, dressing can be done economically and effectively by using “self sharpening” dressing tools. These tools continually expose new diamond grit during the dressing process.
